Originally called Lavender Hen Bindery after my beautiful Lavender Pekin hen, The Handcrafted Hen has evolved into more than a bindery.
I'm excited to share that I now have a new studio space where I can offer a variety of workshops and classes, and finally I'll be able to create large pieces of hand marbled fabric for interior designers, fashion schools, family and friends marbling parties, small group, one-to-one or one-to-two workshops.

A few years ago I started to take paper marbling seriously. It had always been something I enjoyed doing, but during a difficult time in my life I found that the process of water marbling relaxed my mind and helped me de-stress. I soon ended up with lots of sheets of beautiful marbled paper, so I decided to use them in my bookbinding - now it's become part of my brand.
My handmade books are more than a product I'm selling, they helped restore my self-belief as a maker, and gave me a goal so I could move forward. I hope they can mean something amazing to you. Fill these books with whatever makes you feel good, and enjoy.
All my work is handmade using traditional techniques - just me, in my kitchen/studio, with hand held tools, and lots of love, care and enthusiasm for my craft.
My goal is to make and sell, but also to support others who would like to learn new techniques in arts and crafts processes through workshops on my YouTube channel, and my bookbinding starter kits.
