We only ever use 100% cotton twill (perfect for scatter cushions) or Habotai 8 100% silk (perfect for elegant scarves) because fabrics made up of natural fibres work best when marbling. The marbling inks I use are Pebeo Paper and Fabric Marbling Inks
I hope you're happy with your wearable one-off masterpiece. At the shop I placed your newly marbled scarf into some cold clean water and I gently swished the water to help remove any excess ink, and to help remove any thickened water left on the surface from the marbling water tray. Then I placed it on an airer to dry for 30 minutes which gave you the opportunity to enjoy the other outlets at Resorts World. You came back and I placed it in a sealable bag for you to take home.
At home take your scarf out of the bag and leave somewhere to continue to dry - at this stage do not hang it outside as direct sunlight could damage the vibrancy of the colours. Leave it somewhere indoors for at least 24 hours.
You have used Pebeo Paper and Fabric Inks, and these inks need heat to set. Using a hot iron the back of your scarf, I usually use the cooler cotton setting on my iron which is hotter than you would normally use for silk but not the hottest. The heat is necessary to fix the colours. Iron slowly making sure the iron moves over the whole of the surface of the scarf. This should take around 8 minutes.
Ironing is important to make it sun-safe and washable, and to prevent future colour fading!!!!
The colours on your scarf will now be fixed.
If you find that there are small clear flakes on the front side of your scarf don't be alarmed - this means that not all of the thickened water was removed at the rinse stage at the shop. This will wash out easily.
Use a liquid laundry detergent suitable for delicate and/or silk fabrics. Add this to tepid or cool to cold water in a bowl and hand-wash gently - don't scrub. Follow the instructions of your chosen laundry detergent, but I generally rinse in clean cold water, squeeze the water out - don't wring, then more cold water with a very small amount of fabric softener. Squeeze out the water again and hang to dry. Use an iron on the correct setting for silk.
Don't use a washing machine at any setting to wash your scarf, and don't use a tumble dryer. Taking care of your wearable masterpiece will mean that it will look amazing for longer.
Enjoy ❤️
